Attention to All MUMMIES !!

Saturday, March 15, 2008

I was with Dr. Natalie Ann Epton the other day during consultation. Dr. Nat was sharing her experiences and way to handle those fussy eaters as most mummies of babies/toddlers nowadays having problem feeding their children. She highly recommended this website of Annabel Karmel. If you don't have time browsing her healthy recipes online, just grab her cookbook at Kinokuniya. Have fun !!

TOO COLD

Maybe is normal for most of you but for me, my brain is not even functioning during the last few days! We hate cold weather as sinusitis will attack me and for Ben, it will be asthma. I have no choice but to wear my pink girlish sweater while working but still, I am down with sorethroat and cold yesterday night. Ben was such a dearie to wake up at 4am & 5am to feed me medications. I'm feeling much better now..Forecast for coming week.. *praying hard*

My First Pandan Chiffon Cake

Friday, March 07, 2008

My mood is super good today so I decided to bake something.. Many thanks to LeeLee who shares her recipe online! *Extracted from her blog*

Ingredients:
75 gm plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
75 ml coconut cream/milk
4 egg yolks
5 egg white
100 castor sugar
1.5 tbsp corn oil
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
a pinch of salt
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp pandan paste **

Methods:
1. Cream egg yolks, 70 gm of sugar until it is creamy and thick.
2. Add in sifted flour and baking powder, vanilla essence, coconut cream/milk, corn oil, pandan paste into the egg yolk mixture. Use machine to mix it well.
3. In a clean dry bowl, beat eggwhite, remainder 30 gm of sugar, cream of tartar and a pinch of salt until stiff.
4. Mix the eggwhite into the flour mixture and mix it thoroughly using a spatula. Pour into the chiffon pan and bake in a preheated oven at 175C for 45 mins. (My oven doesn't have 175C so I baked it at 170C.)
5. When cake is baked, invert it immediately to cool down for about 10 mins. After 10 mins, use a sharp knife to loosen the side and then the bottom to release the cake. Leave it on a wire rack to cool down further.

Look at the texture!

Twistie is home..finally

Twistie is home safely after a successful cystotomy done by Kasey

His clean wound. As a healthcare professional, I would say this is really a very beautiful and very nicely stitched incision wound. After a month, you can barely see a scar. Well done !

Updates : Twistie

Thursday, March 06, 2008

Kasey called in the morning to update Twistie's condition. They manage to put in an urine catheter for flushing and the tiny stone that stucked along his urethra had successfully flushed back to his bladders. He is much brighter and lively in the morning and I was encourage to give him some support before they give him GA later. Op has been scheduled in the afternoon and I reached there earlier.

*MANY KISSES AND HUGS GIVEN TO MY LITTLE GEGE *

1510hrs, Kasey called again. The op was successful and Kasey is going to send the specimen (stone)to US for analysis purpose so to advise me on the further management for Twistie in term of diet and supplements. *relieve* Kasey said my little gege is a bit groggy now but he will be fine when we see him later. I'll take some photos of those naughty stones that caused so much pain and suffer to my gege.

Twistie is hospitalized

Wednesday, March 05, 2008

Reached home at 650pm and found vomitus on the carpet. Twistie ran towards me with his wailing tail but my sixth sense told me his behaviour is a little weird today.

mum : he vomited 4 times today and he can't seem to be able to void.
diana : I'll call mt. pleasant clinic and see if kasey can see him.

Selena answered my call and asked me to go to Springside asap. I hailed a cab and reached mt.pleasant clinic on the dot. After weighing Twistie, he walked a few steps and started straining... we were shocked to see blood dripping down from his urethra and Selena brought him in to the tx room immediately.

skin scrap done. urine test done. x-ray done. physical examination done.

Kasey : There are stones in his bladder and one of the small stone is along the urethra, blocking the urine from flowing out. Luckily you bring him in today, or else, we may not be able to see him again..

Diana : This is life-threatening, right? Can we do an emergency op now so that he won't be suffering from the pain at the bladder?

Kasey : He is not fit today, let's put him on drip and we will assess his condition. However, you have 2 options; you can bring twistie home tonight and we can give you medication that can help him to pee. If anything goes wrong tonight, bring him back immediately to ER at Mt. Pleasant Hospital. Option 2; hospitalise him tonight and we'll put him on drip, that will help to flush out the bloody urine and if he is fit tomorrow, we will go ahead with an operation to remove the stones. I'll call you tomorrow morning at 8 and you can visit him at around 10am, just before we start the op. If there is no post-op complications, we will discharge him on Friday.

Diana : All right, I'll give consent and sign the admission form for him.
Kasey : My staff will bring you to the tx room to have some private time with him before you leave later.
Diana : Thanks a lot.
My baby Twistie kissed me goodbye and I gave him a few hugs before I left the clinic. I know he is in good hand and we all have confident in Dr. Kasey. Let's keep Twistie in our prayers !

First Day of Work

Monday, February 25, 2008

After so many months, I've finally put on back an uniform. This time round, I looking more like a student than a semi-senior nurse *rolling eyes* as the uniform looks very much like my student nurse's, except the "blue bibs".
I am now working with a pool of Peds and many wonderful staff. My manager is a very nice lady, maybe is a little bit too early to give comment now but I know I am right. The bonds are strong and they are all supportive! I reported to work on time today and spent most of my time with SSN Chua, a very patience, motherly senior who is doing her Deg at SIM; SEN Karen, a bubbly nurse who guides me how to give vaccines(to neonates!); SSN Maria, stern looking but nice nurse to work with. Basically I was stationed at Tx Rm, learning drug challenge.

After taking a break for an hour, I realised that the clinics aren't very busy for the afternoon session, maybe it is just on Monday. By the time I knocked off, I realised that I've not check my handphone for whole day! Had more than 8 missed calls and 3 messenges from Ben and friends. Oh dear, please do not disturb me while I am at work.

FYI, I DO NOT ENTERTAIN PHONE CALLS DURING
- my lunches /dinners, esp. when I am with my family
- at work esp. in the consult room as it reflects very badly on our image
- showering, my phone doesn't go to bathroom
- baking, phone doesn't look good with flour

BUT, I do read mails and you all may text me, I will surely reply (daily before 1030pm). So here is the happy wife blogging and reading her emails and browsing some of bakers' blogs, as her day time is fully occupied and dedicated to her very little patients.
