Tricks or Treats !?!

Oh, it's Halloween again. Ben's ang moh colleagues in US are telling him they are going to dress up together with the kids and enjoy their holiday.

In Singapore, we don't really celebrate Halloween. At most, you will see people dressing up for parties, in weird outfits, along Orchard Road, Bugis and Cityhall area. The common Halloween activities include trick-or-treat, costume parties,watching horror movies,ghost tours, visiting haunted attractions! Yeah, I received an email from SPI for the visiting and of course, I did not respond to that mail.

Maybe I should try watching scary movies later.. Hahaha...

While on our way home, I saw Stefanie, our new neighbour, bringing her 4 kids out, distributing candies and they are all dressed up in cute outfits. Thanks darlings for your candies and hope you all enjoy the night!

Mooncake Tasting at Takashimaya

Cute right? The three little pigs are from Hong Kong 奇华饼家. Well, as mentioned before, I don't eat the traditional mooncakes so why am I still here?? Hey, I eat kimchi, ok?

All right, I have no idea why there are stores selling food that has got nothing related to mooncake festival (eg. pickles, kimchi, japanese food), maybe they cater for people like me. haha.. Anyway, the one thing I tried was their yam paste flufy pastry mooncakes. Hey, I know what are you thinking, cheapo, right? Go and Try for free, I got buy okay!Hahaha

Nat bought mooncakes from Shang Palace from Shangri La Hotel for SGD49, yeah, it is pricey but mind you, the most expensive mooncakes in Singapore for year 2009 costs a whopping $1288! They are from Mandarin Oriental, containing Ginseng Premium Bird's Nest, Pearl Powder and Omega Egg White Custard. Eh, "bao nya" (sure win) if you buy this to your potential MIL and remember to blog about it. (and let me know)

We all like to eat the formal Crown Prince Hotel's flaffy pastry "Or Ni" mooncake 潮州芋泥月饼, especially me because I don't eat the traditional baked mooncake. Well, cravings started and we are like die-die must buy when we know we can get the yam mooncake at Peony Jade while shopping at The Central last week. Yeah, we walked in the rain just to get these yummy delicacies.

Thumbs up for their mooncakes! I was so careless for not double checking them before leaving the restaurant as we ended up buying the one without york, arrgghhhh... *did you see my hello kitty table cloth?*

As for our all time favourite - Durian Mooncake, we are going to give it a miss for this year as the prices are just way too expensive at >SGD50 for a box of 4 snowskin durian mooncakes. I think is better to spend SGD50 on PURE DURIAN PULP. Hahaha.. *I may reconsider when the date is drawing near because they normally give better discount to clear their stock*

Happy Holi

Happy Holi !!!

Holi - the festival of colors is one of the most popular festivals of the country. It is celebrated during the spring season and embodies all the festivity, liveliness and exuberance of the season. Holi is the festival of young hearts. Spraying colors, dancing on traditional Holi songs, musical drum beats and wild processions are the common scenes that one comes across during this festival. The festival is associated with various legends but the most popular among them is the tale of Hollika. According to legends there was a demon-king named Hiranyakashipu who was very cruel and ordered everybody to worship him and not God. He was against Lord Vishnu. However, his little son Prahlad refused to do so and continued to worship the almighty Lord Vishnu, the Hindu God. He tried hard to kill him but every time Lord Vishnu saved him. One of the sisters of the king named Holika had a boon to remain unscathed by fire, so she followed her brother's wishes. However, with this sinful act against Lord Narayana's devotee, Holika's boon ended and she was burnt to ashes, while Prahlad came out safe. From that day onwards Holi is celebrated as the festival of the victory of good over evil. Even today, bonfires are lit on the night before Holi in memory of the event and burning of the evil Holika. Ben and I ever celebrated Happy Holi with his colleagues and we are going to give it a miss this year as I am still having chesty cough. How do we celebrate it? They will prepare lots of Indian food and lots colourful powder(gulal). We will sing and dance and sprinkle all the colourful gulal in the air, apply on each other faces and clothings. Sounds fun, right? This is actually a festival of fun and nobody could miss being colored on this day.

Visiting 拜年

We usually do visiting on the first 2 days of cny, as we were away to Batam, we decided to go 拜年 today! Is really like 赶场 for every year but this year, we do it at a slower pace.

First, we went to the Chee's. They sold their 2200sqft Mais Condo at Lakeside and rent a unit at Marymount View. Well, this is our first visit to their new place and I was shocked that this unit is so much smaller but Aunt June is fine with it (less cleaning you know). Most importantly, it is walking distance to RI, where both my cousins walk to school daily.

You see the “ 鼠”? Both my cousins are very good in calligraphy, they will write lots of 对联 for relatives during the cny period. You will see another one at Uncle Joe's place.

Forgot to take photo when we went to my eldest aunt's place at Toh Guan!! Here are some photos taken at Uncle Joe's place. Aunt Monique was busying preparing some cold dishes for us, Ben loves her kueh pie ti.

拜太岁

Ben, mum and I went to the God of Wealth Temple at Sembawang Drive to do some praying. A few of us need to 拜太岁(pray the Godness of the year)for this year. It was quite fun and we were quite amused by the way they pray for 太岁. They also told us by end of this year, we need to come back to 谢太岁(thank the Godness) for looking after us throughout the year.

It's Valentine's Day !

Ah ha, it wasn't an usual "just you & me"session but the whole family decided to 捞鱼生 together on this day! Fong came to visit us from Ipoh and we, as usual, cooked up a storm for the night. I wasn't feeling too well these few days, my Raddish Cake was a big failure so I didn't even bother to post them. Sigh...

Sea Sick ? Food Poisoning ?

I don't think is sea sick, because it happened on the 2nd day.

I don't think is food poisoning too, because I am the only one having diarrhoea and vomitting.

Everyone enjoyed themselves, esp. Cheryl ! M, N and Chris came back with their POLOs and lots Donuts. Poor me sleepin' and frowning..

年初二

Wake up -> Buffer breakie -> Swimming -> MASSAGE!! ->Nagoya Shopping Centre! -> Dinner at Fisherman Restaurant! Saw my little toe in the previous post? Got hurt after swimming session and still die-die-must-go MASSAGE. Had a wonderful one at a spa centre nearby. Yup, I walked over with my hurting toe as all massage sessions in Novotel was FULLY BOOKED.

Still insisted on going shopping at Nagoya, we were going to have dinner there anyway and it was just a stone throw away from Novotel.
